JEFF PILSON Jams At STATION FAMILY FUND Benefit
November 11, 2003Former DOKKEN bassist Jeff Pilson has posted the following message on his web site:
"I jammed at the Benefit for the Station Family Fund on Friday the 7th — what a blast! I played with Vinny Appice (still one of my dearest friends, along with wife Justine),Alan Krigger (also long-time friend and drummer for Ike Turner),Erik Turner (WARRANT),Mitch Perry (guitarist/songwriter extraordinaire),Chas West (amazing BONHAM vocalist),and up-n-comer hotshot 16 year-old Daniel Irmas. It was hysterical. No rehearsal, just a big rock mess that was absolutely more fun than you could imagine. And it's so good to see someone like Daniel Irmas, who is so into and familiar with great rock bands and great guitarists. Maybe he'll provide a unique model for musicians his age. Great guitar player and great attitude. The world needs more of those! Anyways, after the jam and during GREAT WHITE's set I got to come up and introduce some of the people from the Station Family Fund. It was a very emotional moment for me, I can't imagine what it's like for Jack (Russell) and Mark (Kendall). All in all a positive event, and one that's raised over $60,000.00 (cumulative for the whole tour) for the families. It's nice to at least see something positive from such a horrible tragedy. Anyone interested in helping out can go to the Jack Russell/GREAT WHITE website to find out details. The healing has a long way to go.
"Tommy and I went in with CLEAR STATIC last Monday to start recording drums for their record. We recorded at a classic studio that I love very much, Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, CA. It's an amazing sounding room, and some classic albums were recorded there. FLEETWOOD MAC 'Rumors', NIRVANA 'Nevermind', most of TOM PETTY's records, to name a few. DOKKEN also recorded all the vocals and backgrounds for 'Walk Away' there, and I recorded most of the WAR AND PEACE 'Flesh and Blood Sessions' there in 1988/89. The sessions went amazing, and we hope to have their record finished by the end of December. I'll keep you posted, but it sure feels like it will be the breakthrough act for ZuZu. The songs and band are undeniable. I feel real good about this, musically and otherwise.
"Hope to get Fro down in the next few weeks to record some drums for the WAR AND PEACE record, but the CLEAR STATIC sessions are keeping us real busy. Hopefully soon. I'm so anxious to work with Fro again, we have a connection unlike any I've experienced recently. He's such a great, intuitive musician, and one hulluva great guy — gonna be fun! Bartholomew (Toff drummer on the rest of the [WAR AND PACE] songs) did a great job, but Fro is a very special drummer and person. Still awaiting details on the deal for [WAR AND PACE], but I'll keep you all informed as I find things out. I still think we're looking at early in the year, and am as anxious as ever to get this record out. I think most of you will really enjoy this record — it's some of my best writing ever."
